The Hilton Hua Hin, Thailand. Nice or not?

Hilton Hua Hin

I am writing this in the Hilton in Hua Hin and thought I might as well write about it. I am not normally so rich and swanky but at the moment, no tourists are allowed into the country, they are doing up the lobby (until October 2020) and it is rainy season. Consequently, it is cheap enough for the likes of Mrs WordofWard and myself to stay here for three nights.

Sea view room

Anyone who has been to Hua Hin will know the Hilton. It is smack bang in the middle of town and right on the beach. We were surprised to get such a nice room for the price we paid (3000baht). We are on the 7th floor with views of the sea and the 7km beach. I sound a bit like an advert but I promise I am not being paid for this. (I would be totally happy with being paid to write this if anyone from the Hilton reads my website.)

The view from our balcony (it’s a bit cloudy)

As I said, the lobby is being done up but I imagine it will be pretty nice when finished. It’s a 5 star hotel and I have been in a lot of lobbies. The odds make it likely. The restaurants are good and reasonably priced – we just had lunch and it was great. We didn’t opt for breakfast but we can pay to go if we wanted. A negative point is that to pay costs 700baht there is no way I am going to I will spent that on what I like to eat in the morning. Across the road, there is a cafe where we got a huge bacon and egg baguette for a couple of hundred baht. I assume the breakfast bacon and eggs are from legendary beasts or something.

The room is great, the bathroom is huge. As is the pool. You can see the edge of it from my crap picture above. Once you are in it, it is colossal. Doing a lap is knackering. There is a bar thing in it if you fancy a mid-lap beer, as plus a lot of staff, another bar and a restaurant. The beach is next to the pool, which was nice of them. As there are no tourists, occasional rain, and refurbishment going on, the pool is currently pretty empty. Like this:

That picture looks like it is deserted but there are at least about twenty staff wandering around, which feels odd when there are less than half dozen guests sitting there. Still, service was quick!

I guess this is less of a review and more of a gloat. It is just that I happen to be here and the plan for this website was to review pretty much everything. Unless you are similarly stuck in Thailand this review may not be hugely helpful but if you can get here before October, you will probably luck out like I did. As an oik/ writer who usually can’t afford such things, it’s pretty sweet.

To answer the question posed in the title… Yes it is seriously fucking nice. When the next global catastrophe kicks off, I will write another 5 star hotel review. Can’t wait!
