Mythic Quest Raven’s Banquet
Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet was the first show I watched when I got Apple TV+. I wasn’t all that bothered about Apple TV but you get a free year when you buy a laptop or iPad. I am a huge fan of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia which had the same writer and star – by Rob McElhenney, with other writers and producers, Megan Ganz, and Charlie Day.
I unashamedly love games and like the talent involved and went into Mythic Quest with high hopes. Happily, it’s brilliant. It is based around an MMORPG called Mythic Quest and the company that makes it. It starts as they are about to launch a major expansion called Raven’s Quest.
This is essentially an office-based comedy. But it’s a good one and they occasionally do things a little differently. For example, there is one episode where it follows the story of two older game developers that aren’t cast members and it is a side story. Yet it is a whole episode. In season two, the writer character gets two entire episodes to himself – one back in the 70s with a different actor, and one in modern times. The writer is an older science fiction writer called C.W. Longbottom, played to perfection by Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham.
I guess as a gamer and fan of the creators, Mythic Quest is particularly appealing to me. However, it has been very well received with a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. They can all be gamers.
I could review more but if you have Apple TV, give it a go. (I assume you can watch it elsewhere.) It’s a half-hour sitcom, you haven’t invested too much time. The characters and acting are great and some of the episodes are perfect. If you are still on the fence, here is a trailer:
