Brain.fm for writers and creative types
I have become mildly obsessed with Brain.fm recently. I read a lot about productivity, especially in relation to being a writer – it’s an ironic form of procrastination. I kept reading about Brain.fm and how great it was.
So I downloaded the app and went to try it out, only to find that I had an account already. I vaguely recalled a year before where I tried dozens of audio options to help block noise and promote focus while writing. I think I tried Brain.fm once, briefly, while reading an article about writing to game soundtracks. I am easily distracted and so listened to the latter. Then I got into Portal and Low-fi (both of which are great).
I tried Brain.fm again about a month ago after reading an article about it. Then I read what Twitter and Reddit had to say and both were glowing with recommendations. I gave it a go and holy shit did it make a difference.
I have astoundingly good noise-blocking headphones but can’t sit in silence. So I often used to listen to Low-fi Girl on Youtube, or simply white noise. Both were nice noises. Brain.fm on the other hand, has good tunes that were developed with science. They massively boosted my productivity.
I highly recommend giving it a go. If you have read my site before, you’ll know that I don’t lie recommend stuff I don’t believe in. This stuff works thanks to magic. I mean science.

Here’s some Brain.fm blurb explaining the science:
Brain.fm’s focus music is made to help you work better, by blending into the background so you can focus distraction-free… all while stimulating the brain with gentle rhythmic pulses in the music that support sustained attention.
Other music is made to grab your attention, making it hard to think and work, even if you don’t realize it. Brain.fm’s functional music is designed from the bottom up to affect your brain and optimize your performance.
PATENTED NEUROMODULATION
Brain.fm holds patents on key processes for creating functional music, including technology to elicit strong neural phase locking — allowing populations of neurons to engage in various kinds of coordinated activity.
This means Brain.fm music is purpose-built to guide your brain into your desired mental state, every time.
So there you go. I hope that’s clear. I’ll leave the link and promo code again, just in case. Enjoy.
