Hello, greetings, salutations, and so forth…

Let me introduce myself – my name is Ward. This is my site. For more specific information see the ‘about me’ section at the top. Suffice it to say I am a freelance journalist and freelance TV technical spod.

I have written a variety of articles for numerous magazines. From research articles to interviews to reviews of bars, games, books, and movies. All were fun in their own way and as everyone else seems to be spewing their opinions into the public domain, I thought I might as well join in. With reviews. Plus comments and a blog. Plus fascinating yet hilarious yet insightful musings on the world around us. That’s the plan anyway.

blog_logoThe blog tab has nearly everything on it and would be a recommended starting spot. Or just skip to the review tabs. It is all, hopefully, blindingly obvious in layout.

There is also a new section at the top for my published work from my years in Thailand. More will be added when I find the photos and the folders containing the articles. It should be every few days or so.

So enjoy! Feel free to bookmark as there will be content added regularly. I have a lot to say.

What’s happened recently:

i-Dosing is the newest made up threat to our delicate youth. Try it out for yourself.

I watch a documentary, do 20 minutes research and become an expert on why we shouldn’t eat so much fish.

I condemn my soul if Catholics are correct when I whinge about the Pope’s visit.

Marvel at the size of the universe. It’s bloody huge!

I read Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton. Well worth a piece of eight.

I take a shallow look at the future of games.

I refer to an older edition of Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe in blaming the killing sprees on the press. They’re at least partly to blame.

I have written a half-assed guide to St Ives in Cornwall.

Mrs Wordofward comments on the situation in Thailand.

People running on water thanks to fantastic shoes!

I foolishly gloat as mankind tampers with the fundamentals of nature.

I was feeling way too happy, so I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

I be utterly vague about the election.

Go to The Eden Project in Cornwall. It’s awesome!

I whinge about Iceland and their pesky volcanoes and Bjork.

I take my wife to the mouth-wateringly awesome Hakkasan.

Want to know how to survive the aftermath of an apocalypse? Read this superb guide!

I stupidly decide to watch BBC1 on a Saturday evening and despair when I catch ‘A hole in the wall’.

I watch and largely enjoy A Single Man.

I shallowly bask in unwarranted attention when Duncan Bannatyne looked at my site for a few seconds.

I read and thoroughly bloody enjoy Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett.

I visit a bar, a club, an art space, theatre, band performance area, cinema, and more. All at once. Shunt at London Bridge is awesome!

I read the superb The Space Merchants. A warning from the 50s about consumerism and the prevalence of advertising. Plus rip-roaring adventure!

I see lots of art! First there was Damien Hirst’s No Love Lost (the blue paintings) at the Wallace Collection, then I saw the brilliant, fun and fairly informative Pop Life at the Tate Modern. This inspired me to start a whole new tab. Called Art. Creative of me isn’t it?

I joined twitter. Purely as an experiment. I have yet to see the point of it.

I see Avatar and remember what a wondrous thing the cinema can be.

You have to watch this clip I saw on youtube. It’s called Ataque de Panico! Lame title, I know, but it’s cool. Apparently the guy just signed a movie deal with Sam Raimi.

I play Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. In summary: unbelievably fucking brilliant. But have a look anyway – there are pretty pictures and an amazing trailer.

I got married oriental style!

I read the latest Hitchhiker novel. It’s not by Douglas Adams! Sacrilege! And Another Thing… by Eoin Colfer surprised me by actually being pretty good.

I finish Batman: Arkham Asylum and find it to be good!

I finally get round to reviewing The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown.

I review one of my all-time favorite books – A Scanner Darkly by Philip K Dick

I see the brilliant District 9 and have finally found a way to insert trailers!

I explain in an epic postwhy computers are brilliant and the fact that they are good for you.

I launch a new TV review section. Might as well. I watch TV for living and am therefore an expert. My first review is of the new Knight Rider series. Which is fun. Plus the fantasy epic series Legend of the Seeker. Which is also pretty damn watchable.

I praise the greatest paper in Blighty! The magnificently shallow 24 minute read – The Metro!

I have a pint or lots in The Flask in Hampstead in my brand new pub review section. Then follow this up with an evening of Guinness and wine in the Garden Gate in South End Green(also Hampstead).

I zap the crap out of a city in inFamous on PS3.

I read the superb Azincourt by Bernard Cornwell.

I go to the Notting Hill Carnival.

A review of the witty near future book – Halting State by Charles Stross.

Is there a swine flu conspiracy? Probably not but it makes for interesting reading.

I take a pointless yet fascinating look at the changes in budget Sci Fi settings.

I lament missing Prostitutes and Burlesque dancers taking on the fascist and fun hating government.

I review the awesome kill-fest that is Killzone 2 on the PS3.

I spend over 100 hours of my otherwise action-packed life playing Fallout 3. I vainly try and justify this by reviewing it. Fallout 3 is great!

In honour of the 40th anniversary of the moon landing I start a new ‘Life as I know it’ tab, where I shall ponder great questions that plague the thinking man, as well as discussing ‘Life Issues’ generally. I was toying with ‘The Philosophy of Ward’ but it wouldn’t fit and sounded pretentious. I look at the dreams of my parents’ generation and my own. I also pose the topical question of: Did we ever actually land on the moon? The answer, without giving too much away, is yes.

I read and review two superb books – Ringworld by Larry Niven and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. READ THEM – after my review of course.

Haunted Thailand. My article on ghosts and spooky stuff in Thailand. Another entry for the published section. It’s pretty cool if I say so myself.

I read and review the classic Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev. It might be 19th century and Russian, but it’s actually possible to read it and remain fairly cheerful.

I add my interview with legendary Olympic Gold-winning Thai kickboxer Somrak Kamsing to my published articles page. He was the first Thai to win an Olympic gold and has appeared in numerous films and even fought Jet Li. He now runs a kickboxing school in Bangkok.

Review of the awesome Watchmen movie. If you haven’t seen the film yet, read my quite lengthy review.

I look back at the works of the brilliant and lamented J.G. Ballard. There’s a brief summary of some of my favourite books by him.

A review of Welcome to Hell by Colin Martin that I wrote for a Bangkok magazine. A man goes to prison in Thailand and has a predictably shit time.
